On Friday, June 2, the library hosts an evening of “Mid-Century Memories.” Katie O’Toole,
president of the Centre County Historical Society, moderates a panel of longtime State College
residents, including Galen Dreibelbis, Timmy Weinstein Shanahan, and Linda Chambers Domin.\nThe panel will discuss life in State College when Schlow Memorial Library opened in 1957.
The interactive program begins at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a display of historic
memorabilia and a reception.

On Saturday, June 3, Schlow holds a Community Open House that will be held in conjunction
with the library’s Summer Reading Kickoff Party. Events for all ages will be held during the day,
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as the library thanks the community for its amazing support through the
years and showcases its history and all of its offerings.
Children can visit the Children’s Department from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and start Summer Reading
with Ike the Spike, the BB&T Nook, Elmo, Spiderman, and Nemo! Activities include a Dinorific
Scientific Big Dig Show at 11 a.m., a performance by Two of a Kind at 1:30 p.m., and Mr. Mike’s
Dinorific Scientific Name Game Show at 3 p.m.
Teens and adults can sign up for Summer Reading from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the library
and have a chance to win free tickets to Happy Valley Music Fest!
This year’s theme for the Summer Reading Programs is “Build a Better World!”
